New student orientation

Each year, prior to the fall semester, the Graduate School and the Graduate Student Association sponsors an orientation to introduce new graduate students to VCU and the city of Richmond. Departments also conduct individual orientation sessions with representatives available to talk with students and answer questions.

Graduate School Orientation

New Graduate Student Orientation will take place on Tuesday, August 13, 2019

The Graduate School welcomes you to Virginia Commonwealth University and invites you to attend the New Graduate Student Orientation on Tuesday, August 13, 2019.

Orientation will be held in the Singleton Performing Arts Center, 922 Park Ave., from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Check in will take place from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. in the lobby of the Singleton Center. Lunch will be provided in Shafer Dining Court at 12 p.m.

Following lunch, Grad Fest, a resource fair for graduate students, will be held in Cabell Library, 901 Park Ave., 3rd floor, room 303 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tables from various University departments will be set up to provide information on what resources are available to graduate students at VCU. Information on parking will be emailed to you after you have registered for orientation.

Register for New Student Orientation

Registration is due by August 9, 2019. If you have missed the registration deadline, contact Ashlee Christakos at

Since this is a University-wide orientation, we will be providing you with general information regarding VCU resources and services to acquaint you with the University and prepare you for the upcoming academic year. If you are unable to attend orientation, please see New Student Resources.

Student Health Services

All students must supply documentation of all required immunizations including tuberculosis (TB) screening. Failure to comply will prevent you from registering for classes. More information can be found at  VCU Student Health.
