CIRTL@VCU

VCU is a member of the Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning (CIRTL), a network of research universities committed to preparing outstanding future faculty with the ultimate goal of improving undergraduate education across all disciplines. Membership in this network enables graduate students and postdoctoral scholars to take advantage of career development courses and workshops that are offered locally and online by other network member institutions, build their teaching portfolio, and gain a competitive edge for the academic job market through evidence-based teaching approaches and engagement with teaching-related learning communities.

CIRTL Core Values

Learning-through-diversity: Learning-through-diversity capitalizes on the rich array of experiences, backgrounds, and skills among undergraduates and graduates-through-faculty to enhance the learning of all. It recognizes that excellence and diversity are necessarily intertwined.

Teaching-as-research: Teaching-as-research is the deliberate, systematic, and reflective use of research methods by instructors to develop and implement teaching practices that advance the learning experiences and outcomes of both students and teachers.

Learning Communities: Learning communities bring together groups of people for shared learning, discovery, and generation of knowledge. To achieve common learning goals, a learning community nurtures functional relationships among its members.
