Students who have completed all academic requirements within the program’s specified time period are eligible for graduation at the close of their final semester.
An application for graduation must be submitted to your adviser or dean and approved by the adviser, graduate program director or school dean. After receiving the recommendation of the graduate faculty, your degree will be submitted to the VCU Board of Visitors to be conferred.
To learn more about the graduation process and commencement details, refer to the Graduate Bulletin and VCU Commencement website. Individual department credit requirements and graduation procedures can be found in the degree program descriptions.
Beginning December 16, 2016:
The VCU Graduate School and the Office of Events and Special Programs have created new guidelines regarding the assembly, procession, seating and recognition of graduate students at the universitywide Commencement ceremonies in May and December.
Starting December 2016, all master’s degree, post-master's certificate and post-baccalaureate graduate certificate candidates from all disciplines will assemble, process, and sit together at the university commencement ceremonies.
This change will greatly simplify the way graduate students experience Commencement Day and provide efficiency to the planning process.
As always, we look forward to working with you and your team to celebrate students and their achievements.
