Leaders and Entrepreneurs Academy

The Leaders and Entrepreneurs Academy for Professional Development, or LEAPD, is a new initiative sponsored by the VCU Graduate School. A companion to the Preparing Future Faculty Program, LEAPD offers a series of short courses and experiences to assist graduate students seeking careers in industry, nonprofit organizations, health care, public service and government.

Areas of study will include how to start your own business, building networking skills, leadership, enhancing communication skills, resume writing, negotiation skills and opportunities for discovering alternative career paths.

GRAD 610 Career and Professional Development Planning for Graduate Students
Semester course, two lecture hours per week for seven weeks, one credit, fall and spring semesters

GRAD 611 Professional and Personal Development
Semester course, two lecture hours, two credits, spring semester.

GRAD 612 Oral Presentation Skill-building for Career Professionals
Semester course, one lecture hour, one credit, spring semester.

GRAD 614 Introduction to Grant Writing
Semester course, two lecture hours per week for eight weeks, one credit, fall semester.

GRAD 615 Biomedical Science Careers Seminar Series
Semester course, one lecture hour, one credit, fall semester.

GRAD 616 Becoming an Entrepreneur
Semester course, two lecture hours per week for eight weeks, one credit, fall semester.

GRAD 617 Biomedical Sciences Projects in the Community
Semester course, 1 lecture hour and 1 service-learning/laboratory hour, 2 credits, spring semester.

GRAD 693 Graduate Internship
Semester course; variable hours (60 hours per credit). 1-9 credits.
